| There are 5 members of the genus Eudyptes. The members of this genus are commonly referred to as the "crested" penguins, since their heads are marked by colorful crests or aigretted. I have decided to be bold and take side with new thought that the Royal penguin is now a geographically distinct "race" of the Macaroni penguin. If you are looking for information on the Royal penguin, it can be found within the section on the Macaroni penguin. Additionally, some are beginning to think that the Snares Island penguin and the Fiordland penguin are too similar to warrant specific separation. I will treat them separately, however. |
